From the university's history: searches and achievements

    At the beginning of the 30-ies, Kazakhstan's role in the development of the country (former Soviet Union) was special. The formation of production power, mass searches of raw material's resources, construction of a number of industrial enterprises in Leninogorsk, Balkhash, DzhezKazgan, Karaganda, Guriev, Chimkent cities and others have got a wide range.
    All of this has been the beginning of accelerated development of Mining and Smelting Industries of Kazakhstan. There was a great demand in rapid growth of qualified specialists in the Economy of Kazakhstan.
    The first higher educational institution in Kazakhstan - Semipalatinsk Geological Survey Institute was founded in 1933 under the initiative Kazgeol trust on the basis of the Geological Survey Technical College, rabfac and Geological Survey Apprenticeship School (GSAS).
The Institute consisted of three faculties and there were 10 lecturers and 75 students in it.
In September 1934 the Government Decree on the Institute's transmission to Almaty was adopted. The Kazakh Mining and Smelting Institute was founded on its base.
    Invaluable assistance in the formation of the first technical HEI was made by enterprises, organizations and establishments. Many of them gave necessary equipment for laboratories, collections of minerals, geophysical and topographical devices helped in scientific and technical literature provision. Teachers and Professorial staffs problem was solved as well.
    KazMSI having successfully overcome the difficulties of formation and organization, at the shortest period of time has gained authority and become the main basis of engineering specialists' provision for mining and smelting, geological, construction and other branches of industry.
     In 1960 KazMSI was reformed into the Polytechnical Institute and was among the country's leading higher educational institutions, where qualified engineers training was carried out in 8 faculties. On the basis of its separate faculties the Almaty Energetics and Communication and the Kazakh State Architectural Construction   Academy   were   opened.   The   most   important   KazPTI   structural subdivisions were: the affiliates in Rudny general engineering faculties in Ust—Kamenogorsk, Leninogorsk, Karatau, Zyryanovsk, Shevchenko and Atyrau.
In January 1994 V. Lenin KazPTI was reformed into Kazakh National Technical University. From that time KazNTU as the leading technical HEI of the country has been made responsible for such important tasks as training specialists on multilevel structure accepted in the world practice, and different specialties curricula and programmes work outs as well.
    In the 90 - ies the specialists trained in the university carried out economic policy of production reformation and the most important branches of industry of the sovereign Kazakhstan.
Today many graduates have become leading specialists in different branches of economy and research institutions. For the special merits in training country's engineering specialties by the Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan of September 29, 1999 the Kazakh National Technical University was named after a prominent scientist, Academician Kanysh Imantayevich Satpaev.
Nowadays all the KazNTU activity is focused on the University's prestige increase, reformations, improvement of teaching quality and management system perfection.

       The scientist of the world celebrity Kanysh Imantaevich Satpayev having had unique personnel characteristics, brilliant organizational talent and mind is example of selfless service to his native and motherland. Development and prosperity of large kazakhstanian science and The Kazakh Academy of science was connected with K.I. Satpayev’s name which transformed into center of scientific thought of the country for spell.Academician K.I. Satpayev together with representatives of famous Pleiad of Russian scientists contributed into formation of the largest scientific centers, building of new mines, plans, channels and in general into development the most important branch of national economy of the Republic- coal and chemical industry, non-ferrous and ferrous metallurgy, agriculture a lot. Profitable scientific researches in the field of exploring of oil and gas, hard gas mixture, ore and non-ore fossils, water recourses of arid areas, various flora and fauna were carried out by K.I. Satpayev. Deposits Zhetybai, Yzen and other were opened owing to his scientific predictions. Scientific-research Institute of oil and salt have been organized by common efforts of the scientist. Kanysh Imantaevich was not only grate scientist but also an engineer-expert with big experience. He noticed the continuity of the geological science and practice, thought that the most important problem is the building of the theoretical basis for practice geology and was busy with working up scientific foundations for deposit forecasts. Integrated metallogenic prediction map of Central Kazakhstan having been composed by the scientist was well appreciated and was awarded with prestigious Lenin premium. 
K.I. Satpayev is the universally recognized leader of geological science of the republic. His scientific ideas and conclusions had national value. The center of engineer staff of geologists, miners and metallurgists – the Kazakh Institute of Mine and Metallurgy (onowadays The Kazakh National Technical University) always kept and eye of K.I. Satpayev who was cultivating his own “satpayev” style of working to alumni of the first technical university from the time of the first engineer-geologist graduation (1937) for a few years.
